The Lines of Torres Vedras site aims to bring history alive, drawing on years of experience and local knowledge to offer a unique approach to less familiar aspects of the Peninsular War. Here you'll find photographs, maps, modern and contemporary descriptions of the Lines and their fortifications, background information, web links and bibliographic references which make this a unique resource.
The Quintas which form the "Heart of the Lines" are working farms, specialising in fruit and vegetables. Nestling in the shadow of Monte Socorro (Wellington's "Eagle's Nest ") only 30km north of Lisbon, Quinta da Póvoa and Quinta do Vale do Corvo, have been in the hands of the same local family since before the French invasions. In addition to equestrian and traditional agricultural specialisms we also offer tailor-made activities for groups and provide expert supervision for programmed events and themed activities. We aim to show a side of Portugal that many visitors don't see and to cater for the interests of those who are not necessarily military history enthusiasts, as well as those who are. What better way to learn about the period than with a little "hands-on" experience? |
