Rocha pearsEnglish supermarkets are beginning to discover these delicious fruits.
There's more about them here (opens a new window)

The Rocha Pear is so named because it was first identified on the property of a gentleman named Rocha in 1836. The first pear tree was immediately recognized as unusual, with fine, soft and aromatic flesh and a nutty firm skin which do not require the same treatment as other varieties. Rocha pears can be eaten fresh, cooked (in syrup or boiled) or as an ingredient in all kinds of dishes. Pear with chocolate and pear cooked in red wine with spices are two common and well loved desserts in Portugal.
